Eagles Left Guard, Mathis, Wants to Return

According to Philly.com, the soon to be Free Agent and 2011 starting left guard for the Philadelphia Eagles, Evan Mathis, has said he would like to remain a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Based on the comments that were reported, such as his interest in staying for some cheap food and a small payment (as an obvious joke), it doesn’t look like he is joking about being willing to stay with the Eagles for a discount. However, Mathis played last season on a one-year veterans minimum deal, so even if he says he would be willing to stay with the Eagles for less, the lure of more money often makes NFL players forget what they said, and who can blame them?

Mathis made some quality contributions for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, but given his age and the need for the Eagles to add a true anchor to the offensive line, it’s possible that both Mathis and the Eagles choose to go in different directions when Free Agency starts on March 13th.
